The Most Important Area of Your Business to Develop

I have just finished listening to a set of interviews conducted by CEO and founder of ActionCOACH, Brad Sugars with ActionCOACH’s Top 10 coaches worldwide, as ranked by earnings. I want to share the key message that is consistent amongst these coaches about what it takes to become and remain successful. It is a message Brad learnt before he was 20, from Jim Rohn, and has been preaching ever since.

I believe our success is directly proportional to how much of this message we take on board and the action we take on it.

Brad knows what he is talking about. He is an Australian, a self made multi-millionaire; his wealth is over $100 Million. Apart from having owned more than two dozen companies, he founded ActionCOACH which is ranked well inside the Top 100 franchises globally and rated the Number 1 Business Services business worldwide by Entrepreneur Magazine. There are over 1000 franchisees throughout 28 countries. All this means is that Brad knows what it takes to produce success.

So, what’s the message?
Work harder on yourself than you do on your business.

Every coach interviewed independently stated the importance of this. What the message means is that you have to continually strive to be better than you are.

The only person you can change is you. If you want to get a different result, a better result, a bigger result, you have to change what you are doing. What you are doing is governed by the way you think, so you must change the way you think.

It doesn’t mean that there is necessarily anything wrong with how you are thinking; it is simply that if you want to have something different to what you currently have (or get different results from the results you are getting) you must think differently.

We all must read, listen to podcasts, attend seminars, take in knowledge and ideas in whatever form about mindset, attitude, beliefs and ways of thinking. When we do this and change the way we think, then the things we are doing will start to produce what we want to have.

An example of this is as simple as thinking that $30,,000 a year was enough money for you, that this is what you are worth. You will only continue to earn that amount of money as long as you think that way. If you take in ideas that have you challenge your notion of what you are worth and you end up deciding you are worth 3 times as much, then that is when you will start moving toward earning the new value you believe yourself to have.
